Shenmue III being developed with help from Sony

During Sony’s E3 press conference, Shenmue III was announced via Kickstarter. It was said during the show that this is Yu Suzuki’s project and Sony isn’t involved but that has since been found out to be wrong.

During an interview, Gio Corsi, stated that the Kickstarter was a way to see how much fans were interested in the project for them to figure out how much of their own money to invest.

Either way, Shenmue III’s Kickstarter asked for $2 million and it reached that goal in just 9 hours. It has since gathered over $3 million and has just under 30 days to go. Will it get to 4 or 5 million?

Remember the second Shenmue game was made on a budget of $67 million (adjusted for inflation) so there’s still a long way to go to reach the same sort of budget.
